Alex Hastie, Managing Partner

Alex Hastie is the managing partner at Hastie Legal, where he leads the criminal, traffic, and liquor law practices.

Alex graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and holds a B.S. in Political Science from the College of Wooster. He and his wife, Sarah, along with their sons, William and Bennett, live in Grandview Heights. An avid cyclist, musician, and Ohio historian, Alex is deeply involved in his community.

He serves as the Secretary on the Board of Trustees for the Ohio History Connection (formerly the Ohio Historical Society), chairman of the OHC’s Real Estate and Historic Sites Committee and hosts the popular podcast Ohio v. the World.

Edward Hastie, Of Counsel

Edward W. Hastie, III, is of counsel with Hastie Legal, LLC, specializing in liquor law, small business practice, and representing defendants in complex criminal matters. He graduated from Ohio University with a B.B.A. in Finance and earned his law degree from Cleveland State University School of Law in 2005. After law school, Edward served as an Assistant Attorney General at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office under Jim Petro, where he was part of the Environmental Enforcement Section. There, he handled complex litigation involving solid waste, groundwater, and emergency response issues, representing the state in various courts across Ohio, including U.S. Federal District Court.

Before founding his own firm, Hastie Law Office, in 2009, Edward worked as an associate at Newhouse, Prophater, Letcher, and Moots, LLC, focusing on liquor law, employment law, real estate, and litigation. He also served as a partner at Brennan, Manna & Diamond before reopening his firm, Hastie Law Office.
 
Edward W. Hastie, III, known as a leading "liquor lawyer," represents a diverse range of hospitality industry clients, including hotels, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, across various legal matters. His practice encompasses administrative proceedings, purchase and sale transactions, and real estate. In addition, a significant portion of his career has been dedicated to defending individuals accused of criminal misconduct. Edward has worked on several high-profile cases, including successfully defending Ezekiel Elliott against criminal charges, representing ComFest in its lawsuit against the State of Ohio, defending a woman's right to be topless in public, advocating for the abolition of the city-wide curfew in Columbus in the summer of 2020, and blocking a City Council effort to impose a 10 p.m. closure on bars and restaurants.

Edward and his wife, Marissa, reside in Grandview Heights with their two sons, Edward and Henry. He serves on the Grandview Heights City Council, his hometown, and is currently a board member of Ballyneal Golf & Hunt Club in Holyoke, Colorado, a Golf Digest "Top 100" course. Outside of his professional life, Edward enjoys golf, coaching his children's sports teams, and traveling.

Attorney, City Council Member, Business Owner, and Mom
I am a dedicated attorney with extensive experience in personal injury law, liquor law, simple wills and advance directives, and administrative law. With a passion for serving the community, I currently represent the people of Grandview Heights as a City Council member, working to improve our city through thoughtful leadership and advocacy.
In addition to my legal and civic work, I am the proud owner of Basic Biscuits Kindness & Coffee, a local cafe and bakery that aims to serve great food and coffee with a side of kindness. Our cafe has become a gathering place for friends, neighbors, and families in Grandview Heights.
Outside of my professional life, I am a proud mother of two sons who are both avid soccer players for Grandview Heights. Watching them grow and thrive in sports has been one of my greatest joys.
In my personal time, I enjoy attending concerts and visiting other locally owned restaurants to enjoy great food and drinks.
